We are thrilled to announce that Professor Chan Cheah has been named a finalist for the 2026 WA Premier’s Science Awards – Mid-Career Scientist of the Year.

Professor Cheah is a Consultant Haematologist at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and a leading lymphoma researcher who has helped transform blood cancer care in Western Australia and beyond.

Through his research and clinical leadership, Professor Cheah has contributed to advancing new therapies for people living with lymphoma, helping generate the evidence that has supported access to novel immunotherapies through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). His work has helped make these treatments more affordable and accessible for patients across Australia.

He has provided more than 1,000 patients with access to potentially life-changing therapies through clinical trials, giving them opportunities to receive innovative treatments closer to home.

As Founder and CEO of Blood Cancer Research WA, Professor Cheah has raised more than $6 million to support blood cancer research, train the next generation of specialists, and build clinical trials capability in WA — ensuring more patients can access the latest treatments without having to travel interstate or overseas.
