Dr Steven Ward

Steve was born and went to medical school in Aberdeen, Scotland. He did basic postgraduate training in UK prior to migrating to Perth, and continuing his Specialist Haematology training, becoming consultant physician and pathologist in haematology in 1998 (Fellow of Royal Australasian College of Physicians and Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia). Steve has worked at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital since 1990, and also at Royal Perth Hospital. He is currently working part-time at SCGH, and also in private practice at Hollywood, Joondalup and with Western Diagnostic Pathology where he is head of department. He has a broad general interest and experience in Haematology, with current emphasis on the more chronic blood disorders (including chronic leukaemias, myeloproliferative disorders, low-grade lymphoma, myeloma, iron deficiency and overload, and coagulation), as well as all aspects of laboratory haematology. He is a member of the Australian (HSANZ, ASBT, ALLG), British (BSH), European (EHA) and American (ASH) Haematological societies.

He spends many hours developing computer programmes and web-based apps to assist medical practice. Outside medicine he enjoys travel, wine and photography.
