Dr. Tricia Oosterhof
Board Member
MBBS FRACGP
I was inspired to join the BCRWA Board by the significant health outcomes that are being achieved by a group of passionate and skilled researchers in the area of clinical research into management of blood cancers and how that is positively impacting the lives of Western Australian patients and their families.
Like most GPs, unfortunately I see an increasing number of new cases of a wide range of blood cancers in the community. To date there has been a huge physical, psychological and financial cost to patients having to travel interstate or overseas to participate in well run, successful clinical trials. The reduced morbidity, mortality and increased quality of life with access to these trials in Western Australia justifies the significant commitment to maintain and increase the number of trials done here.
I am also excited about developing the concept of WA becoming an internationally acknowledged centre of excellence for such work, that it becomes aspirational to work here with skilled mentors in well organised and committed teams, significantly changing the trajectory of blood cancer management.
